Resources for International Students

###
Announcement! As of August 1, 2019, the TOEFL Reading, Listening and Speaking sections will be shortened. The TOEFL will also make changes to its prep materials and scoring system. Because of this, some of the info in our blog posts may not yet reflect the new exam format. We cover all the changes here.
###

If you’re reading this blog — which focuses almost entirely on your TOEFL prep! — then you are likely an international student who wants to study in the US or Canada. Navigating the admissions process can be really stressful, and it’s not an easy task. To help you along, we’ve rounded up several resources for international students applying to US grad schools. If you’ve come across any helpful sites, please share them in the comments below. 🙂

Helpful Blogs

  • US News International Student Counsel Blog – This is a great place to start your research and to start learning more about what it’s like to study in the US.
  • College Xpress – International Students Blog – You’ll find useful information about studying in the US, scholarships, and more on this blog.

Resources

  • GradTrain – This website helps you connect with current and prospective students just like you. These “coaches” can offer you advice about the international admissions process since they’ve already gone through it!
  • i-Student Global – This site provides information about study programs and scholarships, as well as student blog posts, application help and more.
  • Top Universities Community – Here, you’ll find both an awesome blog and an international student forum, where you can ask and answer questions.
  • EducationUSA – This entire site is a great resource, but in particular, we like this step-by-step timeline that tells you exactly how to apply to graduate schools (there’s an undergraduate version as well).

One More Very Important Tip!

The resources above will definitely help you with the application process, but don’t forget to check the websites of the programs you’re applying to as well. This is a very important step. Each university will list its own requirements, and some even walk you through the international admissions process step (for example, check out American University’s international admissions page).
