last minute studying tips praxis core -magoosh

One of the biggest misconceptions about the is that one doesn’t need to study to pass. It’s important to review the material for the exams so you’re prepared. You should give yourself plenty of time to study. As the test gets closer, use these 5 last minute studying tips to help you.

Stay Alert and Focused

Studying for hours at a time won’t be effective if you’re not alert and focused. When this happens, it’s difficult to retain anything that you read or review. To help your mind stay focused, you could:

  • Exercise during study breaks
  • Get plenty of sleep at night
  • Eat healthy snacks
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Consume a caffeinated beverage

Study with Others

Studying with a partner or group helps you stay focused and accountable. You can discuss any material that you need help with before taking the exam. Try splitting up the material and presenting it to each other. That way you can cover more material quicker.

Read Out Loud

You may not be able to in the middle of the library. However, reading out loud is a great way to help you concentrate and remember what you’ve learned. When you read out loud, you see the words, hear them, and speak them. Engaging three different senses helps you better remember the material.

Randomize Your Study Content

Consider covering several different subjects during your study session. That way, when you find yourself struggling to focus, you can switch to a different topic. By doing this regularly, you can study for longer periods of time.

Identify Your Weak Spots

You probably don’t need to cover everything for the exam. Determine what areas you need to review. Then, focus on these weak spots. Make sure that you feel comfortable being tested over them. It might be a good idea to teach this material to someone else, which forces you to know the material backwards and forwards.

In college, I spent several nights cramming for exams. It was an effective way to prepare for the exam, but I didn’t always remember the information much longer after taking the exam. Make sure that you give yourself enough time to study the material and ensure that you understand it. Then, you can use these last minute studying tips to keep the ideas fresh in your mind.
